Intel Conroe desktop processors, which will be available on 27 July, achieved PCW Labs’ fastest-ever PCmark05 performance on standard clocking in pre-launch tests.
The 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo, which uses Intel’s new Core microarchitecture, scored 6,906, compared with 5,964 by a 3.46GHz 955 Pentium Extreme Edition and 5700 by a 2.8GHz AMD Athlon FX-62, PCW published.
These are also dual core and were the previous high scorers. Conroe also scored high on our Cinebench tests: 465 running a single core and 859 on both cores.
The respective figures for the Pentium EE and Athlon FX-62 are 302 and 647, and 397 and 741.
A 2.93GHz Core 2 Duo Extreme Edition, targeted at gamers, was predictably faster that its stablemate. scoring 7404 on PCMark05 with Cinebench scores of 405 single-core and 930 dual, PCW reported.
