vostroDell has announced its new Vostro line of desktop and laptop PCs, based on AMD’s and Intel’s 64-bit solutions. The new systems are more business-oriented than Dells Inspiron consumer PCs, yet more personalized than the enterprise-class Dell Optiplex and Latitude PCs.

Along with new GM965/PM965 chipsets, these laptops feature the new 64-bit Intel Core 2 Duo processors, which now have 800MHz front side bus, compared to the first generation of Core 2 Duos for notebooks with 667MHz FSB. Also, now there is increased number of PC vendors offering their mobile computers with 64-bit Windows Vista OS pre-installed.

Intel Intel today introduced the new Centrino “Santa Rosa” notebook computer technology. The latest “Santa Rosa”-based laptops with “Centrino Duo” and “Centrino Pro” logos feature the new Mobile Intel 965 Express chipsets, 64-bit Core 2 Duo processors with increased front side bus speed to 800MHz from 667MHz, a new integrated graphics, a wireless N connection with greater speed and range, a Turbo Memory for faster boot-up and application loading, and Intel’s Active Management Technology in business-use models.

The major notebook makers have already released the first “Santa Rosa” notebooks. Intel expects the release of more than 230 Centrino Duo and Centrino Pro processor technology-based designs from PC manufacturers, resellers and integrators around the world to be released this year.

Gateway E-155CGateway has unveiled this week the E-155C Tablet PC featuring the latest 64-bit Intel Core 2 Duo U7500 Ultra Low Voltage processor at 1.06GHz.

This new convertible notebook with 12-inch (1280 x 800) widescreen display supports both a digital pen and touch screen inputs using Wacom’s technology.

Toshiba Satellite P205Toshiba announced yesterday 17-inch Satellite P205 and 15.4-inch Satellite A205 notebook PC series. Almost all P205 models and the whole A205 lineup feature 64-bit CPU (Intel Core 2 Duo T5300 or T5500).

These Toshiba’s multimedia notebooks ship only with 32-bit version of Windows Vista Home Premium, Business or Ultimate, depending on model.

AMD Turion 64 X2AMD plans to release in May the 64-bit dual core Turion 64 X2 TL-66 notebook processor clocked at 2.3GHz and built using 65nm technology, HKEPC reports.

AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-66 has 512KB of L2 cache per core and supports DDR2-800 dual channel memory, while its thermal design power (TDP) remains at 35W.

Intel ViivIntel plans to push its forthcoming Santa Rosa platform, scheduled for launch at the beginning of May, under its notebook PC platform brands Centrino Pro and Centrino Duo, as well as under a Viiv branded desktop platform too, according to Digi Times’ sources.

“PC makers such as AOpen, Sony and Shuttle have used mobile on desktop (MoDT) platforms to create small form factor systems targeted primarily at noise or space sensitive environments, such as SOHO and living room PC markets. However, these systems have found difficulty in expanding sales in to the wider desktop market due to higher costs, lower performance, and lower expansion options compared to traditional desktop systems,” the report says.

Intel Core 2 DuoIntel has silently launched the Core 2 Duo U7600 and Core 2 Duo U7500, the corporation’s first 64-bit ultra-low voltage (ULV) processors.

The U7600 is clocked at 1.2 GHz, while the U7500 runs at 1.06 GHz. Both have 2MB of L2 cache and a 533 MHz front-side bus, as well as TDP (thermal design power) of 10 watts.

HP Compaq 6515bHewlett-Packard has recently announced the HP Compaq 6515b and HP Compaq 6715b business laptop computers, both configurable with AMD Turion 64 x2 dual core 64-bit processors and built on the latest AMD M690 chipset.

The pre-configured 14.1-inch widescreen 6515b and the 15.4-inch widescreen 6715b models are offered at HP’s web-site with 32-bit Windows Vista Business, while some models come with Vista Home Basic. Although the option is not listed on-line, it is possible to purchase some of these laptops with 64-bit Vista.

AMDAdvanced Micro Devices has announced the availability of laptop-use version of its latest 690 chipset. AMD M690 supports AMD Mobile and Desktop Client processors, up to 800MHz HyperTransport interface speeds and has an integrated ATI Radeon X1200 series graphics. There is also a new battery life saving technology called Display Cache.

“To ensure longer battery life, the AMD M690 incorporates innovative memory technology known as Display Cache, designed to allow the CPU to operate in low-power mode without accessing system memory. This platform-level innovation coupled with the energy efficient processor design of AMD Turion 64 X2 dual-core mobile technology extends battery life by up to 30 minutes over previous AMD mobile technologies.

Clevo D900C laptopNotebook PC maker Clevo will release at CeBIT Show in Germany this week the new D900C gaming notebook, based on desktop-use Intel 965 Express chipset, which support Core 2 Extreme processors and with Nvidia’s SLI graphics system utilizing two video cards.

Clevo D900C laptop features a 17-inch widescreen display with 1680 x 1050 or 1920 x 1200 resolution and can be configured with one of the desktop Intel Core 2 Duos or with Core 2 Extreme processors. D900C will feature dual Nvidia Geforce Go 7950 GTX or forthcoming Geforce Go 8800 GPUs, according to NotebookReview.

They are designed for optimum compatibility with Windows Vista, and support mobile PCs and desktop PCs platforms. All of these chipsets have received certification from Microsoft. At CeBIT this year, SiS will introduce its full product line of chipsets for powering Windows Vista. gigabyte.logo Gigabyte will launch the new Intel Santa Rosa based laptop line-up next week at CeBIT show in Hannover, Germany. The new notebook series include the 17-inch gaming laptop with dual graphics card system, the models with NVIDIA’s new graphics chipsets, as same as eight-hour batteries.

Gigabyte W251U notebook is a 12.1-inch, 1.8 kg ultraportable with magnesium alloy chasis, 1.3 megapixel webcam and “long battery life”.

Gigabyte W466U notebook is 14.1-inch Santa Rosa based business notebook with 1.3 MPx Webcam, a new card slot, and a 4-in-1 card reader and also comes equipped with four USB 2.0 ports, one IEEE 1394, TV-out and a D-sub connector for video-out.

Gigabyte W468N with 14.1-inch screen is a multimedia laptop with fingerprint reader and “Robson’ quick access boot-up technology. W468N is also based on Intel Santa Rosa platform and has nVIDIA NB8P 256MB graphics.

Intel has earlier announced that the Santa Rosa will support 64-bit Intel Core 2 Duo processors and will feature 667MHz up to 800MHz front-side bus, which speed can be dynamically reduced and raised. There are also 802.11n wireless standard and ‘Robson’ flash memory based hard drive cache incorporated.
