Intel Sets “Penryn” CPU Launch Date

ASRock introduces first Intel 3 series motherboard

ASRock has announced its first Intel 3 series motherboard, the ASRock 4Core1333-eSATA2 based on the P31 plus ICH7R chipset combination.

The motherboard supports Intel Core 2 Quad, Core 2 Duo, Pentium Dual Core and Celeron 400 series processors. It also supports DDR2 800 memory, AMD CrossFire technology, PCI Express Gigabit LAN and IEEE1394.

New iMac Unveiled

Apple has unveiled the new all-in-one iMac line featuring 20- and 24-inch widescreen displays encased in aluminum and glass enclosures. The entire new iMac line features the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors and a new, ultra-thin aluminum Apple Keyboard, built-in iSight video camera for video conferencing and iLife ’08. The 20-inch iMac now starts at $1,199, $300 less than the previous 20-inch model, and the 24-inch iMac starts at $1,799, $200 less than the previous 24-inch model, Apple published.

AMD To Cut Prices on Athlon 64 X2 Processors

AMD will cut prices on some of AM2 Athlon 64 X2 processors on August 13th reportedly.

“Athlon 64 X2 4000+, the 4200+ and the X2 4400+ will all have their prices cut. Earlier on Aug 6th, AMD has released dual-core Opteron 8222, 2222, 1222 at 3GHz/95W and Opteron 8224 SE, 2224 SE at 3.2GHz/119W and cut some of the older Opteron models prices,” the report says.

Intel Prepares 16-core ‘Caneland’ Configurations

VIA to Release New 64-Bit Processor in 1Q08

VIA Technologies is scheduled to launch its new processor core, dubbed Isaiah, in the first quarter of 2008, with the new architecture entering EVT engineering validation test stage in the fourth quarter of 2007, according to Digitimes.

“The Isaiah core engineering codename CN will replace VIAs Esther processor architecture, which was introduced in 2004,” Digitimes said.

Isaiah features a 64-bit architecture and will be manufactured on a 65nm process, as compared to 90nm for Esther. Other features include a V4 Bus speed of 1333MHz, up from 800MHz previously, and support for ECC error checking and correction memory and virtualization technology. The L2 Cache will also increase to 1MB from 128KB previously.

AMD to Release Athlon 64 X2 6400 Processor

AMD is preparing to launch a new high-end desktop processor, the Athlon 64 X2 6400, which will be the last processor in the Athlon 64 X2 family, DigiTimes reports.

Currently, AMD’s highest-end desktop processor is the Athlon 64 X2 6000. However, with its performance unable to match Intel’s upcoming Core 2 Duo E6850, AMD plans to launch the new 6400 to cover up the gap in the market, noted the DigiTimes’ sources.

Biostar Introduces AM2+ Motherboard

AMD to Release 7 Series Chipsets in the H2 2007

Intel plans to launch two new entry level chipsets in Q3 this year to replace the current 946GZ/PL and 945G chipsets. Intel G31 Express and P31 Express support the current Core 2 Duo and Quad processors as well as the upcoming 45nm Yorkfield and Wolfdale. G31/P31 supports 1066FSB in Q3′07 and 1333FSB in Q1′08 upon validation, DDR2-800 memories up to 4GB and allows one x16 PCIe slot for discrete graphics. However, G31/P31 is paired up with older ICH7 series. For G31, it comes with integrated Intel GMA 3100 like G33, Q33 and Q35 chipsets.

Vr-Zone has published some details of the upcoming AM2+ Phenom FX processor and the new AMD CPU model naming.

“Leslie Sobon - Director, Desktop Business, AMD provided us some updates on Phenom today. According to her, there is no special meaning for G, S and L. G stands for Premium where Phenom X4 will compete against Kentsfield and Phenom X2 will compete against Conroe. S stands for Intermediate while Athlon 64 X2 will compete against the Intel Pentium 2000 series. As such, there will be AMD Phenom X4 GP-7xxx, Phenom X2 GS-6xxx, Athlon X2 LS-2xxx and Sempron LS-1XXX. She mentioned that there will be both Socket 1207+ as well as Socket AM2+ Phenom FX for more platform versatility and the FX series will retain back their model naming eg. AMD Phenom FX-xx,” the report says.

AMD’s Quad-Core ‘Barcelona’ Opteron CPUs at Computex

AMD today announced three leading vendors attending Computex Taipei are unveiling their server platforms demonstrating the industry’s first native x86 quad-core solution, Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors (codenamed “Barcelona”). “Barcelona” processors are expected to deliver up to 50 to 80 percent performance and performance-per-watt improvements on a broad range of server applications over similar current generation AMD Opteron processors. In addition, these quad-core processors are designed to be drop-in compatible (following a BIOS upgrade) with all existing AMD Opteron processor-based systems using low-power DDR2 memory, while also enabling new platform capabilities such as those being demonstrated today.

Intel 3 Series Chipset Family Officially Unveiled

Intel Corporation’s Executive Vice President Sean Maloney unveiled at the Computex Show the new Intel 3 Series Chipset family, as well as plans that surround the Intel Core 2 Duo and Quad processors for home and business PC users.

“The Intel 3 Series Chipsets, formerly codenamed “Bearlake” enable exceptional PC performance while helping to enable improved energy efficiency, system design and quietness. Computers with these chipsets can deliver CE-like video and sound quality and new data security and manageability features for business users and will be the foundation for Intel’s next-generation Intel Viiv processor technology and Intel vPro processor technology, codenamed Salt Creek and Weybridge, respectively,” Intel’s press release says.

The Intel 3 Series Chipsets are compatible with DDR2 up to 800MHz, or DDR3 memory with data transfer speeds up to 1333 MHz. The chipsets have PCI Express 2.0, which doubles the available bandwidth for graphics cards. Intel “Bearlakes” also support Intel Turbo Memory which enables faster application loading and boot times.

The Intel 3 Series chipsets include versions with integrated graphics called the Intel G33 and G35 Express Chipsets.

Vice President Maloney said the 3 Series chipsets are additionaly designed to be used with the company’s upcoming Intel 45 nanometer (nm) “Penryn family” processors expected later this year.

The Intel G33 and P35 Express Chipsets have been shipping since April, while the Intel Q33 and Q35 Express Chipsets are shipping now ahead of their Q3′07 introduction. The Intel G35 Express Chipset and the advanced Intel X38 enthusiast chipset with dual graphics support will ship within 90 days.

Maloney also disclosed plans for an Intel Core 2 Extreme laptop processors to be released in the third quarter of this year.

BIOSTAR has released TP35D3-A7 Deluxe motherboard for LGA 775 socket processors. The TP35D3-A7 Deluxe is based on Intel’s P35 chipset, with support for DDR3 memory.

BIOSTAR TP35D3-A7 Deluxe supports full 1333 MHz FSB and has one PCIe x16, three PCIe x1, and two PCI slots. There is also eight channel audio and dual Gigabit Ethernet. MSI P35/G33 Motherboard Series Launched

Micro-Star International (MSI) has launched its latest P35/G33 series motherboards based on the latest Intel P35/G33 Express chipset.

According to press release, MSI will unveil at least ten new SKUs based on Intel 3 series chipset, including the latest P35/G33 Express chipset on ATX and Micro-ATX form factor. The new MSI P35/G33 mainboards support the upcoming FSB1333 and upcoming 45nm multi-core processors from Intel.

The select motherboards also support the next generation DDR3 memory, which consumes less power than DDR2.

AMD Sempron 2100+ Brings 64-Bit to Embedded Systems

AMD has announced the Sempron 2100+ processor for embedded systems, offering fanless design and 64-bit technology in a 9W power envelope.

AMD Sempron 2100+ is compatible with the recently announced AMD M690T chipset, used in notebook computers. It has “the high shock and vibration specification Socket S1, offering high reliability for ruggedized computing,” AMD claims.

The chip maker also introduced 32-bit AMD Geode LX 800 @ 0.9W processor with extended temperature support.
