Intel Corporation has introduced its first Intel Core 2 Extreme mobile dual-core chip - “the world’s highest-performing mobile processor”. The company also introduced new desktop Core 2 Extreme, Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Duo processors and said it expects to announce battery-friendly quad-core processors for laptop computers next year.

AMD Announces SSF Solutions
AMD announced the finalization of the DTX specification, an open standard initiated by AMD to enable the development of small form factor (SSF) PCs. AMD also introduced new 45-watt energy-efficient processors based on 65nm technology, the AMD Athlon X2 dual-core processor BE-2350 and the AMD Athlon X2 dual-core processor BE-2300 at Computex Taipei 2007.
AMD’s Quad-Core ‘Barcelona’ Opteron CPUs at Computex
AMD today announced three leading vendors attending Computex Taipei are unveiling their server platforms demonstrating the industry’s first native x86 quad-core solution, Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors (codenamed “Barcelona”). “Barcelona” processors are expected to deliver up to 50 to 80 percent performance and performance-per-watt improvements on a broad range of server applications over similar current generation AMD Opteron processors. In addition, these quad-core processors are designed to be drop-in compatible (following a BIOS upgrade) with all existing AMD Opteron processor-based systems using low-power DDR2 memory, while also enabling new platform capabilities such as those being demonstrated today.

AMD Phenom Four-Core CPU Demonstrated
AMD today unveiled the upcoming four-core AMD Phenom processor family name and publicly demonstrated the first all-AMD enthusiast platform, codenamed “FASN8.”
“The industry’s only true quad-core client processors are expected to deliver the ultimate visual experience, especially when paired with AMD’s new DirectX 10 ATI Radeon HD 2000 series. AMD expects true quad-core and dual-core AMD Phenom-based desktop systems will ship in the second half of 2007,” the chip maker announced today.
