amdAMD announced today that Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors, code-named “Barcelona,” are planned for shipment in both standard and low power versions at launch in August. “Due to its enhanced architecture – it is the world’s first x86 CPU to integrate four processing cores on a single die of silicon – Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors can deliver significant performance and performance-per-watt enhancements over existing processor architectures yet are designed to be backwards compatible with existing AMD Opteron platforms,” according to AMD.

dellDell has released the new 64-bit desktop and notebook computers. The new PCs are Inspiron 530, 530s and 531, 531s desktops; Inspiron 1720, 1721 (17-inch), Inspiron 1520 and 1521 (15.4-inch), Inspiron 1420 (14.1 inch) notebooks; and XPS M1330 (13.3-inch) notebook.

Biostar TP35D3 A7 Deluxe Biostar has released its T-Series TF560 A2 motherboard which supports AMD’s upcoming socket AM2+ CPUs. Although socket AM2+ CPUs will not launch until later in the year, the socket is backwards compatible and is able to support both AM2 and AM2+ CPUs, according to the company.

AMD AMD’s family of high-end desktop CPUs Phenom (Agena) is scheduled to start appearing in November, according to sources at Taiwan-based motherboard makers. Four products are set to be available in 2007, which will be followed by 11 more during first quarter 2008.

IntelIntel plans to reveal at least tree new products including the Pentium E2180 processor with 1 MB cache, a new Celeron 440 CPU and a the Q35 chipset. The Celeron 440 is based on the Conroe L dual core processor, supports FSB 800 and has total of 512 KB cache and is clocked at 2 GHz. The Intel Pentium dual core processor E2180 is based on the Conroe core and it also supports FSB 800, has 1 MB cache and will work at 2.0 GHz, according to Fudzilla.

AMDThis June AMD is going to launch 65nm version of their Athlon 64 X2 5200+ processors on Brisbane core that will hit 2.7GHz frequency. The closest 65nm dual-core AMD processor with similar features that is available at this time is working at 2.6GHz. It is Athlon 64 X2 5000+ with 64W maximum TDP.

AMDAMD has scheduled to release its new 7 series chipsets in the second half of 2007.

“The 7 series chipsets will introduce support for HyperTransport 3.0 and will include the high-end RD790 which will adopt PCI Express 2.0, mainstream RX780, and two models with integrated graphics (IGP); the RS740 which supports DirectX 9, and RS780 which will add support for DirectX 10 and AMD’s UVD (Universal Video Decoder) technology, according the the sources. The RX780 and RS740 will launch in the third quarter while the RD790 and RD780 will follow in the fourth quarter,” DigiTimes reports.

intel Intel plans to launch two new entry level chipsets in Q3 this year to replace the current 946GZ/PL and 945G chipsets. Intel G31 Express and P31 Express support the current Core 2 Duo and Quad processors as well as the upcoming 45nm Yorkfield and Wolfdale. G31/P31 supports 1066FSB in Q3’07 and 1333FSB in Q1’08 upon validation, DDR2-800 memories up to 4GB and allows one x16 PCIe slot for discrete graphics. However, G31/P31 is paired up with older ICH7 series. For G31, it comes with integrated Intel GMA 3100 like G33, Q33 and Q35 chipsets.

“Scheduled to ship in October, Leopard introduces over 300 new features, including a new Desktop and Dock with Stacks, an intuitive new way to organize files; an updated Finder featuring Cover Flow™ and a new way to easily browse and share files between multiple Macs; Quick Look, a new way to rapidly preview most files without opening an application; Time Machine, a new way to easily and automatically back up and restore lost files or a complete Mac®; Spaces, a powerful new feature to create groups of applications and instantly switch between them; and enhanced iChat and Mail applications, which easily allow users to communicate even more creatively,” according to Apple.

SISSiS plans to unleash a new family of single-chip and dual-chip chipsets for Intel Penryn dual and quad-core processors next year. The single-chip family consists of the SiS 680-series, in five different variants. SiS plans to cater the 680-series towards performance, mainstream and entry-level market segments.

The machine adopts an 64-bit processor, the latest G33 chipset with integrated graphics, ICH9DH southbridge, and MXM (mobile PCI Express module) slot for hardware expansion. Acer is also planing to introduce a same-sized model built around ATI Radeon X1250/X1200 chipsets, named the Aspire X1100.
