Apple today announced the new Mac Pro computer, which is now configurable with two quad-core Intel Xeon “Clovertown” processors running at 3.0GHz, providing a total of eight CPU cores.

Mac Pro accommodates up to four drives and 3TB of storage, offers eight DIMM slots for up to 16GB of RAM, and provides up to two SuperDrives. You can choose between three graphics cards, including the NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT (256MB), ATI Radeon X1900 XT (512MB), and NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 (512MB). You can also configure Mac Pro with as many as four GeForce 7300 GT graphics cards, Apple says.

Gigabyte has released GA-MA69VM-S2, GA-MA69GM-S2H and GA-MA69G-S3H motherboards, which are based on AMD 690 chipset.

The Gigabyte GA-MA69VM-S2 Micro ATX motherboard features the 690V chipset and ships without HDMI connectivity, while the Micro ATX GA-MA69GM-S2H and ATX GA-MA69G-S3H incorporate AMD 690G chipset and feature HDMI outputs.

NVIDIA nForce 650i Ultra chipset, which is similar to the 650i SLI with the exception of SLI support, is finally making an appearance in reference board form, DailyTech reports.

“Supported features of NVIDIA’s budget performance chipset include dual-channel DDR2-800, Gigabit Ethernet with FirstPacket technology and high definition audio. The chipset also supports Intel Core 2 Extreme, Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Duo processors with 1066 MHz and 800 MHz front-side-buses”, a report based on forum posts at ChileHardware says.

Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Arch Linux 0.8 “Voodoo” had been released last week.

The Voodoo ISO images for i686 and x86_64 are ready for download at Arch Linux download page.

Arch Linux team has also announced that this Linux distribution is changing its name to Ark Linux.

Hewlett-Packard has recently announced the HP Compaq 6515b and HP Compaq 6715b business laptop computers, both configurable with AMD Turion 64 x2 dual core 64-bit processors and built on the latest AMD M690 chipset.

The pre-configured 14.1-inch widescreen 6515b and the 15.4-inch widescreen 6715b models are offered at HP’s web-site with 32-bit Windows Vista Business, while some models come with Vista Home Basic. Although the option is not listed on-line, it is possible to purchase some of these laptops with 64-bit Vista.
