It supports up to two SATA hard drives including 160 GB (7,200 and 10,000 RPM), 250 GB, and 500 GB capacities with DataSafe data protection options. Intel Core 2 Duo - Merom and ConroeIntel today officially announced its Core 2 Duo processors, dubbing the desktop “Conroe” and the laptop-use “Merom” chips “the best processors in the world”. Intel also cut other selected processors prices by as much as 60 percent.

“The Core 2 Duo processors are simply the best processors in the world,” said Paul Otellini, president and chief executive of Intel in a statement annoncing the new chips. “Not since Intel introduced the Pentium processor has the industry seen the heart of the computer reinvented like this.”

Intel Core 2 Duo Conroe PCmark05 PerformanceIntel Conroe desktop processors, which will be available on 27 July, achieved PCW Labs’ fastest-ever PCmark05 performance on standard clocking in pre-launch tests.

The 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo, which uses Intel’s new Core microarchitecture, scored 6,906, compared with 5,964 by a 3.46GHz 955 Pentium Extreme Edition and 5700 by a 2.8GHz AMD Athlon FX-62, PCW published.

Intel Itanium 2  9000 Series ProcessorsIntel unveiled five new products in the Dual-Core Intel Itanium 2 Processor 9000 series. Previously codenamed “Montecito,” the new 64-bit Itanium server processors “double the performance and lower energy requirements, improving performance per watt by 2.5 times compared to existing, single-core versions”, Intel’s press release says.

The Dual-Core Intel Itanium 2 processor 9000 series delivers performance at a system scale unmatched by competing RISC architectures. According to Intel, Itanium 2 sets world record results in several key server benchmarks including a score of 4230 SPEC_int_rate_base_20001, nearly triple the previous record.

Intel Core 2 Duo ProcessorsThis August, Intel will release the Intel Core 2 series of chips. The first of the Core 2 series, the Core 2 Duo processor, codenamed Conroe, is slated for release July 27. The chip is intended for desktop computers and is cited as using 40 percent less power than Intel’s Pentium D processor, UPI reports.

Also slated for release July 27, the Conroe XE will replace the Pentium 4 Extreme Edition and its dual-core cousin. The Conroe XE will run at a clock speed of 2.93 GHz and be priced at $999.
